Hey Ironman Canada Athletes, spectators and locals!

I'm planning on competing in Ironman Canada 2016 and I'm wondering if anyone could provide advice on accommodations on a tight budget. I won't give a price expectation until I know what is reasonable for that time of year. I'm looking for the following:

-reasonably close to Whistler Olympic Plaza (5-8min drive)

-has a kitchenette

-has its own bathroom (aka not a shared hostel)

-doesn't have bed bugs (aka not a complete shady dump )

I'd be very grateful if any locals or former athletes/spectators could help me out.

Regards,

Jordan

We were up at Whistler just last week to check out the venue for 2016.   We booked a nice condo at Lake Placid Lodge online through airbnb.com   The owner has had IM racers there in previous years.   Just go to the airbnb website and choose what price category you want.  I would also check out VRBO

I second the Airbnb recommendation.  You can find some great places for a lot less than a hotel room.

I tried about 8 places on VRBO last month and all 8 said they don't have the July schedule ready or pricing...very frustrating.

Reasonable hotel for IM week either in the village or creekside is probably in the $125/night* range at the lower end.  At least it's better than Coeur d'Alene by a long shot, and most of them don't have 5 night minimums.  If you need something cheaper than that, it'll probably take some scrounging and luck.

So when it comes to triathlon, the largest investment we make, in both terms, comes in the bike. Looking at ways to get faster, while considering a budget, is a bind for most triathletes.

Byrn won’t hold your hand through the long hours and miles required finishing or for success in an IM, he can only show you how to get there. The work is up to you.
