Sunny
Total Time = 35m 12s
Overall Rank = 470/1322
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 86/247
Pre-race routine:

got up at 5:30 in the frickin freezing and had a muffin and cup of tea then headed to K's to meet her and H. Andy took us to meet the train cause as with most Perth events we had free public transport for the day.
Walked from the train station to the race start which took us about 10 minutes. I dropped K andH at their start zone because they were walking and headed to my area.
Event warmup:

Walked from the train station to the race start and then stood around for about 15 minutes. Thankfully it started to warm up a bit and the start area was down at river level where the wind wasn't so icey.

Comments:

I had planned that I was going to run/walk at 4/1 intervals but I was feeling really good at the 4 minute mark and decided that I would just keep running because it would help me to clear the pack a bit.

I managed to run pretty much the whole way except the 2 aid stations which I walked. I didn't drink much just a couple of mouthfuls at each station, enough to stop my mouth getting dry.

In hindsight I could have run a bit harder I think but I am really happy with my time. Pacing is something that I need to work on as is judging how far I have to go so that I know when to start to push it a bit more (or I could just pay more attention and watch for the signs that I didn't see).
What would you do differently?:

train a bit more and push myself a bit more especially in the last 1k.
Post race
Warm down:

Got my medal at the finish line then ducked around the barriers and ran along the side track until I found K and H. They were about 1k back so I walked in with them.

We walked through to the shuttle buses and caught the bus back to the train station where we caught the train back to Ks. Then we went out for Breakfast. Yummy pancakes.

Event comments:

good race that I will most likely do again in the future.

Performance: Good
Course: Flat except for a small little hill about 500m from the start. It followed the road around the river. It was very pretty for the most part because even though it was cold the sun was shining and hitting the water.

Well done, Stacey   Looks like a beautiful venue, so I don't blame you for being distracted and not seeing signs or markers. Icy wind? Please blow some my way. lol

Congratulations on your race!  Figuring out pacing is tricky, but it sounds like you did a good job and learned a bit too.  Beautiful area!!

What we see is that people want to look good – in a bad way. Our society paints a picture of beauty. But nobody wants to really go back to basics of diet and exercise as the fountain of youth.
