I did the half. It made me want to quit all endurance training forever.

Amen,

Never ran hills, and always run at night when it's cool...it was quite a learning experience!

I've run out there a bit, but I tend to avoid that kind of heat and humidity at all cost. Saw a guy heading for the hospital at mile 12. Just brutal.

Did you do the full?

Yes, it was my first full. I signed up for the Freep back in January, but wanted to do a "test run" to see where I was at. In retrospect, I could have probably picked an easier one, but I think after this, the Free Press will seem a lot easier...cooler, flatter, 3 more months to train. I finished in 4:18:42, and could have probably broke 4:00:00 if the heat and hills hadn't caught up to me the last few miles.

Nice job! I used this as a training run for Twin Cities, easy pace made harder by the conditions. Detroit was my first full (and only so far) - much easier course for sure!

I signed up for Ironman Frankfurt, next year July - and I am very excited about it. I originally planned to run my first Marathon in the middle of September, but am not sure if this is wise.

Once I can run again I'm thinking about keeping it in the training plan as a substitute for a few of my short runs. Has anyone else done this for their marathon training?

I will assume you have not run consistently more than 6 miles and have never completed a half-marathon. I believe running your first half-marathon is a big task which requires dedication and work.
