I would replace my current aero helmet.

Did you want to include a poll w/ this post? The only thing I would like for the bike is a power meter.

None, I think I'm done with cheap upgrades.

Next upgrade I would want is a power meter, that's not happening for $200.

If I could get a 60mm deep front wheel I would do that, but that's probably not happening for $200 either.

I would probably spring for aero spokes on my front wheel and a cover for the rear.

How about a 50t chainwheel for my mountain bike and a pair of slicks?

When I had $200, I upgraded the seat (Cobb Plus 2 saddle). Other upgrades for $200 or less included a Giro Attack Shield Helmet, an x-lab torpedo hydration system, and most recently a pair of Specialized Expert Road shoes.

OP asked what *you* would do, not what the average person should do.  I'm reasonably confident in thinking that you have already done the above.

Since I paid $30 for my sleek Huffy from the mid 90s, I'd put it into the "buy a better bike fund".

I just spent about $200 replacing my old Cat-eye double wireless with a Garmin 500.  The Cat-eye was on it's last legs and so far the Garmin has been great.  I also got the speed sensors that wrap around the hub.  No more magnets and super easy to swap onto other wheels.

I don't know if this constitutes an upgrade, but my cassette and chain, shoes, and FD all could use replacing soon. :-/

Me?  The fit to the one we came up with last year on the Guru Fit System.  It's a more aggressive set up than I used the last few seasons with an 81 degree effective seat tube angle, and lower bars.

What should someone else do?  It depends on what they're currently riding.  Possibly...

  1. A bike fit
  2. Clip on shorty aerobars
  3. An aero helmet
  4. Racing tires with latex tubes.

I could probably list a bunch of things that I could use the money on to replace things that will eventually wear (chains, brake pads, cables, housings, tires, etc) but that wouldn't really be an upgrade.

So with $200 I'd probably invest in some Specialized Turbo Cottons.  I'm still on Continental GP4000S, and since the Cotton's are about 2x the price I just haven't gotten around to making the switch yet.  I will eventually once my current GP4000S on my race wheels wear enough, and finding $200 in my pocket would certainly help.

$200 for a used pwoermeter is not far away. The market is very competitive right now, prices are dropping so the secondary market is going down as well.

You can buy new PM's for $500 right now.

Hmm, looks like a new crankset would run me about $200. My 50/34 starts to spin out a bit too soon for my tastes. Though the cheaper route might just be to run a smaller range cassette.

I'm actually about to buy a disc cover for the rear wheel, and a few latex tubes.

That's about it now for cheap upgrades :p

This.  I've been meaning to get one of the Wheel Builders type disc cover for my Zipp 404s.

tri bike needs a new chain, mountain bike needs a new middle ring and possibly a bottom bracket. I would love to get a carbon seat post on the MTB as well. - I think I am over my $200!
