Pre-race routine:

4:30 wake up. Waffles and diet coke for breakfast. Filled some gatorade bottles, loaded up the bike and drove the 30 minutes to the race site. Got set up in transition and walked to the swim start.
Event warmup:

No real warmup. I did jump in the water for about 2 minutes.

Horrible swim. I had already done 2 Olympics this year with no problems (I have only been swimming about a year). For some reason right after the start I could just not breath. Ended up flipping on my back and basically struggled for the whole swim. Totally killed me.
What would you do differently?:

I think I just need to swim slower. I went into the water with a lot of confidence and might have started too strong. I just need to think "swim slow".

T1 was long because I was so dejected getting out of the water I just walked slowly from the swim exit to my bike.
What would you do differently?:

If I had a good swim, I probably would have rushed a bit more. I usually have the potential to podium in Clydesdale but I knew I was out of this one so I took my time.

First race on new bike. Not comfortable in current aero position so spent most of the time on the base bars. Still had higher average than expected.
What would you do differently?:

Tweak setup to get more comfortable.

Did not have far from dismount to bike rack. Clown next to me had his bike racked the wrong way when I was setting up. He came by and me and the others around us convinced him it was wrong and he changed it. However, after his ride he put it back in the wrong direction again. I lost some time sliding his bike over so I could get mine in place.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. I could take my shoes off on the bike but it doesn't really affect my time.

This was actually a good run for me. I didn't expect this good of a pace due to the heat. Took a Gatorade out of transition. Took another one at first stop and dumped water on me and in my hat. At last stop I dumped ice in my hat and down my shirt.
What would you do differently?:

I probably could have run even faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Just walked around a little and went back to finish line to wait for my wife to come in.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

SWIMMING.

Onurmark puts on a great race. I do all of the triathlons they put on in the area. Can't wait for the next one. Well organized. Good food. Good swag. Great volunteers.
