I decided to make sure I get into the Chicago Triathlon. Hopely the Oly still has a good Cylsdale as they did this year. considering I heard its the largest tri in the world I thinking it may still have it. I basicly have about 1 year to train for this. I think with the right training I can place in my age group/weight group.

Right now my swimming is only good enough for a spirit. I am starting to go more than .5 miles but its been hard since I been working on form also and been getting faster but more tired at the same time.

I guess my question is how do I train for each event so I can do the oly and do it at good speed? Do I work on doing like 50 miles a weekend on bike and 2 miles on the swim so that 25 miles on the bike and .9 miles on the swim become easy? if I was jsut training for running I would do a lsd on satuday. during the week I would do the distance and race speed and do 2 runs during the week at a shorter and faster distance to work on speed.

I know my swim needs alot of work so I will work on my form. 1 year is a long time but I figure I would basicly need to cut down from 5 hours for an oly to 3 hour oly.

There are these things called training plans that many people often follow in their training. Many can be found elsewhere on this site.

Also wouldn't hurt to research the principles of triathlon training. Joe Friel's The Triathlete's Bible is a great resource.

Upgrading to a Gold Membership here would also give you access to the D4 coaches for help in planning your training and answering specific questions.

Definitely check out Friel's TTB. He'll take you through the whole training year, teach you about periodzation, through base training, etc.

Sounds like you're the perfect candidate for a year's Gold membership.  Coaches Mike, Amy and Mark will be able to set you up for the next year to help you acheive your goal and keep you sane and reduce your chances for injury.

I'd also suggest swim coaching if you haven't already done so.  The best time to work technique is now and you'll be lots happier in the pool, too.

Best of luck.  Train hard and smart!

I biought the book by triswim coach. It has already helped me out. I gone from about 40 mins or so for a .5 mile to about 30 mins. Now I just need to get my swim to about 34 mins for .9 miles.

My goal time for my race 35 mins swim, t1 4:00 1:20:00 for bike, t2 2:50 56:00 for the bike. about a 2:58:00. 3:01:21 was the winner on sunday so I hope to be a few minutes faster than that.

I just upgrade to gold so hopely that will help also.
