I've had this callous developing for a bit, with very little pain. lately it has gotten to be quite painful. after a 10 mile run today it was tender, i took my sock off and looked at it, it is cracked near the toe nail. the race is end of october. what would you recommend for caring for this little piggy?

is it always painful now?  I'd try and maybe trim the edges and let it stay, or cut the whole thing away and try to get a good new one before the race.

closer or on race day I would super glue it

I'd say you have a shoe issue. You've got time to try some other options.

Keep in mind that your feet swell when you are running for longer periods of time so it may be worth sizing up.

does the toe stick out past the big toe?  are you "lace locking" your shoes?  looks like what MIGHT be happening is that your foot is sliding inside of your shoe while you are running, specifically as you land your foot slides forward and "bangs" against the front of the shoe..................emphasis on the might...........

Thank you all for your input! The toe in question is just a tad shorter than big toe. I had never heard of lace locking before, so chances are i am not doing it :-) I googled it...will have to try that out!

The shoe's i've been wearing are 10.5. I should have gotten an 11. I've got two pair of 11 on the way, and i'll start mixing them in on the training. I've got 350 miles on them, and 6 weeks of training left would put them over 600 miles before the event, so i should be breaking in a new pair anyway.

I did peel off a layer of callous and it wasn't raw underneath, it felt better. it was pretty much peeling off by itself before i did that though. love the super-glue trick, i'll have to toss a tube of that in my running bag.

thanks again,

Ian

I have been noticing a pain in my left foot on my longer runs. It is focused on the ball part of my foot, almost a burning type sensation. Typically wiggling my toes around will get it to subside.
