Subject: Get a Garmin Edge, stick with only 920xt or a cheap bike computer
Hey all
Im having some questions regarding my 920xt which really is a pita in T1 and T2, getting it on and off the bike. I dont use the Quick Relase Kit since i think that makes it so big. I take it off my hand and put it on a Profile Design UCM ( http://www.dcrainmaker.com/images/2012/07/how-and-why-i-mount-cycli... but that takes some time getting off and on. The same goes for T2.
I must say that i wish, and do, use my 920xt in swim, bike and run to get everything recorded.
What i want from the computer sitting on my bike is distance, heart rate, speed, average speed and cadence.
Im thinking about getting some sort of Garmin Edge for this purpose. Does anyone use both an Edge and an 920/910xt ?
I dont really care to post the edge data later since i use 920xt for that.
Any advice ?

Maybe get a real cheap bike computer that does only Cadence and speed? Can i make an Edge work in tandem with my 920?

I had the same questions/problem when I returned my 510 and decided to go only with my 920xt. I have a convenient mount for my watch, one where you just tie the band around the rubber holder, but I only use that during training. Time is too important in transition to mess with taking the watch on and off. While while I'm exiting the water I twist the watch on my wrist so the face is on the inside of my arm, this way I can easily read while in aero position. It did take a few mins to get used

I hit send too soon....

It did take me a few minutes to get used to reading it from the side, but I'm not really concentrating on the data while racing, more so focused on time and speed to make sure I'm on pace.

I also thought about getting the twist mount, but, like you, I think it makes the watch more bulky and it's already pretty big. I also have nightmares that it would twist off while swimming or removing my wetsuit and if lose it for good.

Anyway, I'd just leave it on your wrist for racing and have a basic watch mount for training. I'd be happy to elaborate if you'd like more info on my set up.

Hope this helps!

Anecdotally, I have the 310xt quick release kit, and it's NEVER had any issues with possibly untwisting during a triathlon, but I swim with it in my cap instead of on the arm too.

Some pros will go with just the watch, no quick release kit, but have the screen on the inside of the arm instead of the outside, seems to have slightly less drag and imo in the aero bars it would be easier to sneak a glance.

If you REALLY wanted to be able to see all the data really well, but not worry about the bulkiness or possibility of it popping off on the swim or whatever, then nothing wrong with a dedicated garmin bike computer.

Also, if one dies mid-bike you'll have a back-up.

I'm just too cheap and stick to one device.
