Subject: Cervelo P2C bike fit measurement from CompetitiveCyclist...
I just used the bike fit calculator on competitivecyclist.com and it gave me the following info...I am slightly over 5'8" and do have shorter arms.

Can anyone with experience comment on how credible these numbers are? I currently have a 54 cm Cervelo P2C but am not at all comfortable on it. Looks like this is telling me I need go down to small P2 they have (48 cm) as the effective top tube length of the 48 cm P2 is close to what they are suggesting.

all that data is Chinese unless you work in that realm everyday. I'd recommend going to a tri shop and talking to a pro fitter. I'm in Michigan. Bought my bike from the tri shop here in Livonia. Tom Demerly is the fitter there and he's been fitting for 30 years. Give him a call.

In fact, tom or Scott (the owner and former pro team mechanic) will likely answer the phone. They're great guys and full of priceless info. I recently purchased a new Cervelo P2 from them and they were great to work with for months before I pulled the trigger.

Hope this helps!

Thanks but the question was for someone who is familiar with how to read those numbers and I know there are lot of people on these forums who understand these numbers.

I live in FL and don't have much faith in the LBS close to me as I am quite familiar with them and have already been screwed by them a number of times. I just want an independent opinion.

Definitely no bike fit expert here but I am a tad short of 5'8" (maybe 5'7 3/4) with fairly long (though not freakishly so) arms for my height, and I'm very comfortable on a size 51 P2 (had a professional fit done with it). I'd think a 54 would in all probability be too big, especially if you have shorter arms relative to your height. 48 sounds small to me for someone a bit taller than me, but I'm sure reach matters as well as height (that was the issue with my road bike--height was okay but reach too short) so that would be a matter for the pro fitters to figure out.

Here is my experience when I bought my P1 new. I am 5,8 and "by the Cervelo book" the 51 was the right size for me but they built a 51 and a 54 for me. Once on the trainer it was quickly decided by the fitter that I was better on the 54. I did need a shorter stem but otherwise it was just standard adjustments that were needed.

The problem is that those numbers means next to nothing… An online calculator is better than nothing, but it's still nothing more than a guess.

Are you going to spend money on something that may or may not work for you? To me, it sounds like the geometry of a P2C is simply not right for you...
