Subject: FIRST POWER METER! (Cervelo P3)
Hello everyone,

I am looking to buy my first power meter. My current set up is a stock 2014 Cervelo P3 with a rotor 3DF crank set. I have done some research and the best power meter seems to be the power2max type S powermeter. I live in Canada so with the exchange rate the powermeter is around $1200. Is there any other alternatives? Maybe switching my crankset for a 6800 ultegra then using stages powermeter?

I would like to find the most cost effective/best powermeter for my money. In the end, if the power2max is a far superior choice, then I will not mind spending the money. All help appreciated.

Thanks,

Nathan.

If you don't mind waiting a little bit, Powertap's C1 is due to come out any time now and will come in cheaper than the P2M. P2M is a known quantity with an established reputation as a good power meter - the C1 will be brand new without a history behind it but Powertap has been making reliable power meters for as a long as anyone so I wouldn't have any qualms about getting something new from them.

Thanks for the response!

Will the C1 be compatible with Q-rings?

No the thing about the C1 is it is a set of chain rings (I believe they're made by FSA) so you have no chain ring options. The P2M gives you lots of options in that area since it bolts to your chain rings rather than being the chainrings themselves. I'm pretty sure you can use Q-rings with them.

I also run a Rotor 3D with QRings and narrowed my search down to Vector and P2M. I eventually opted with Vector and have been really happy with the system so far. It could have gone either way, but went with Garmin to ensure seamless software compatibility with my Edge. I think I would have been extremely happy with the P2M system as well. Another plus, you don't have those wonky looking pedal pods on the Powermax.

You should definately get the Power2Max Type-S. All you should need is the meter (~$850CAD) and the tool for the 3DF if you do not already have it. Excellent power meter and great price right now.

Find a used Quarq PF30. Fits perfectly on the P3 (that's what my wife is using on hers)
