I knew that I swam slowly in effort to make the distance, but I had no idea...

I would appreciate any help you can give. I'm assuming I am so bad that you don't know where to begin, but I'd appreciate any observations you have. I was so embarrassed by the first video that I took another attempting to increase my arm speed. I don't kick much to save my legs, but think I've gone to far with that.

Body position is the starting point.  You are swimming through the water like this  /

If I were you, I'd spend the next month pushing off the wall and keeping my legs high while pushing your chest down in the water.  You don't need to do any strokes with your arms or kicking with your legs.  Just push off in a superman position, hold it.......go as far as you can until your momentum stops, walk back to the wall, and do it again.  Yes, it's tedious as hell......but your body position sucks.  The good news is, like with all things swimming, you can fix it.

Learning to swim is a series of building blocks.  You need to work on your foundation.

This will help explain it and give you a visualization......there is other help as well if you google superman swim drill or body position drills.  BUT.....if you have a local YMCA that teaches beginners go there and get some lessons.  If you just get more balanced in the water your time will improve dramatically.....then you can work on your swimming. Be patient....it takes time.

First word of advice: join a good Master's program. Solid coaches will be able to diagnose and fix the problem super quickly. In my first session I improved from a DNF/100 (basically) to 2:06/100.

Now, I am not a coach, but the first thing that I'm noticing is that you're not balanced in the water. Your legs are sinking. There's a bit that goes into that including which muscles you're using, but probably the biggest thing YOU can do to fix that right now is to tuck your chin. When your head's down, your legs will rise. When you breathe, turn your head without lifting it. If your head it streamlined with the rest of your body, you will have created a bow wave which will give you a nice air pocket to breathe in without lifting out of the water (do a google image search "bow wave swimming" to see what I'm talking about).

Hope I didn't confuse you more. But yes. Find a Masters program where they don't ignore beginners. Even if it's just for a month, that will help you more than you know.

I thought that it was my imagination but yes you are swimming /. Although I don't think your body position is as horrible. You need to straighten out but I think that will come by fixing some other stuff. First and for most, your catch. It seems non existent. Like you're just waving your hand through the water and not grabing , catching , pulling whatever you want to imagine to get yourself through the water. That will help your lower body from drifting. Also you're over rotating a bit at the waist which is also causing you to fish tail. I didn't look at your kick too closely. I was distracted by the angle you were swimming. There's some other stuff, your reach and recovery but I'd start with catch.

I started riding this spring with the Carnac shoes on Look pedals (with plenty of float). About five minutes into a ride I get sharp pain on the outer edge of my feet, just behind the pedal.
