I need your advice - rational thinking people wanted the most...

Apparently I got addicted to triathlon (which is yeeey). I completed two Sprints, including Chicago one yesterday (8/30/15.)
There is this huge thing called "ITU World Triathlon Grand Final" that takes place in my hometown, Chicago, in two weeks (September 12-19.)

I am tempted... It does not look like this event happens in Chicago every year (they had it last year, and none in the previous 5 years). The very best triathletes from around the world will be there, and it truly sound like exciting event.

Should I just calm down and finish the season, and start working on preparing for the next season, or just go with the flow and try this one too?
I am talking about Sprint distance.

It is possible that my brain is still being enthusiastic about yesterday's race and I will be back to the real world in few days, but wanted to know your feedback.

Thanks guys!
Mary

if you are healthy and ready why wouldn't you do it ?

there are few things going on that week

there is the ITU Grand final with Gomez, Gwen....all the big hitters. Some of the American olympic team qualification is happening
there is the ITU Age group world champs. These are folks like you and me, but qualified to be part of their national teams. US qualifications occurred last year.
there is an open event, Sprint and Olympic. This is the one you are talking about.

The people in the second category do the same course as you but pay double if not triple :-)

I believe for example all 3 levels are doing their race back to back Saturday morning (for the Olympic). These are 3 separate races
Sprint is another day.

Yes - I checked the schedule carefully, to make sure I don't compete with the champions

I do not have any indications I would not be healthy. The distances are close to what I did yesterday. I still have couple of weeks to recover and then practice.
I just wanted to make sure I don't sound hmm... too crazy...?

I can't figure out from the web site if the event is draft-legal or not.  That makes the race an entirely different beast.  Every ITU event I've seen is draft-legal, but I only watch the pro event.

I don't think adding another sprint is crazy, and I am sure this is a spectacle. However, I think it would be a huge rigmarole and it's SO expensive for the race!

It is non-drafting. Which does not really make a difference for a newbie like me.

The cost for amateurs is $150, so not that bad.
Thank you for your feedback!

Do it! Chicago is my hometown, I moved to California last year and am flying back to do the open race and watch a couple of my athletes race the World championships.

It's a great race & a great course. I did the open sprint last year.

ITU World Champs don't come around to the US too often and this is the 1st time to Chicago (I think DC & San Diego were the other 2?).

So if your healthy enough, you won't want to miss it.

See you on the starting line!

I did!! I have just registered! )))
Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm! I checked 2016 schedule and it will not be in US next year. So it's a great opportunity for us. I even purchased tickets for Women Finals for myself and kids. I think I will cry when I experience this....

Also, I created a facebook group for some of us who completed Chicago Triathlon yesterday and want to race this one too. It is open to everyone, and really - feedback from experienced triathletes is appreciated! So please join us, if you can

That sounds so exciting!
I will be watching Female Finals on Friday, then completing Sprint Saturday morning, and maybe come back in the afternoon to see guys' finals.
You must be really proud to see one of your people competing!

So how did you (& everyone else) do?!

I ended up with an OK race. Wasn't feeling so great in the morning, & the choppy water made it a little worse. Felt strong, just not nearly as good as I wanted that day.

One of my athletes finished 9th in his age group in the open sprint race.

The other finished 2nd age group in the Olympic Champs race!

Overall a super fun and rewarding weekend.

I had a great time! Thanks for asking. I was trying to see if I could spot your socks, but apparently you were wayyyy ahead of me

I had an unexpected anxiety attack during swim (after extremely good first half of the swim), and it was very hard to manage. But I did it Just one more experience I can add to my triathlon portfolio.

Congrats on your team! That's fantastic! You must be so proud

For me the water was actually a safe haven comparing to the wind and air before the start (I did not wear wetsuit). And I was not very happy when they delayed the start. But overall - we had a perfect weather
