This really is a trip report but I just wanted to share my write-up for the trip a fellow BTer and I did a few days ago. It was a little less than 100 miles over two and a half days on the Pacific Crest Trail Section K here in Washington State.

TRIP REPORT

Brad and I both started with triathlon and met here, in fact.

We have both moved more into running exclusively but have been taking the fitness built between the two sports, really, and applying it in a little different way; Using it to get out places one might not have been able to before.

Sounds like an amazing adventure! Beautiful pictures. Was the air smokey when you were near the forest fire, or were the winds blowing it the other way?

Thank you! We got lucky, the wind switched directions right before the trip and air quality and visibility were exceptional.

Beautiful pictures and report.  Did you see many hikers on the trail?  I wouldn't think so given how remote it seems.  I bet that little 26 miler up in Boston will feel like a 5k now.

We saw some thru-hikers but just a hand-full. It was always kind of strange to see anyone since we were so remote.

I dunno, I would venture to say a well run marathon (especially Boston!) is much harder on the body than a leisurely 100 mile run on the trails over a few days. I know, it's hard to imagine.

In sections or straight thru? Running or hiking?

Either way, it would be a huge accomplishment. I have an immense amount of respect for those backpacking thru-hikers. I cannot imagine day in and day out, walking. And how lonely it would be! To be honest, when my emotions were completely raw and we had been running for hours and hours and hours, even with Brad right there I felt a certain amount of loneliness.
