Does indoor riding long distance help or hurt? The one advantage is there is no coasting, no rest. Thoughts?

Most of my midweek rides are done indoors on the trainer, even during the summer. I try to get outside for my weekend long rides, but come this time of year even those will start hitting the trainer... it's almost October, could snow any day now! I prefer the indoor workouts b/c it's faster and easier to get a specific targeted workout in. You won't lose anything as long as you get outside occasionally before you race to make sure you remember how to handle your bike.

I am not that experienced, but I will tell you how I feel. Indoor biking will help for sure, but I found that the one thing that indoor bike will never have is the balance. Balancing on the bike - especially with a butt up - is only possible outdoors. But I may be wrong
I also like to see how I can handle if I'm biking against the wind. Again, not really possible in the gym.
But I do not think indoor biking would hurt.
