Austin, Texas
United States
Competitor Group
Sunny
Total Time = 2h 31m 32s
Overall Rank = 68/520
Age Group = M45-49
Age Group Rank = 2/44
Pre-race routine:

Same old.
Event warmup:

Actually brought my trainer and warmed up in the One Texas Center garage for about 20 minutes. Did some light running with a few pickups as well. No swim warm up available.
Swim
  • 30m 37s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 02s / 100 meters
Comments:

Decent swim. Not great, not terrible.
Transition 1
  • 02m 48s
Comments:

Decent overall transition.
Bike
  • 1h 02m 8s
  • 40 kms
  • 38.63 km/hr
Comments:

Crazy fast bike split. Power reported was way low, probably due to zeroing issues.
Transition 2
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

Again, solid effort.
Run
  • 54m 14s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 25s  min/km
Comments:

I was slow as it was, probably because I went too hard on the bike. At mile 4, though, I got an incredibly painful side stitch that I could not get rid of until I had walked almost all of that mile.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Probably over doing the bike. My run training had been good up to the race.

Event comments:

The post race food was pretty dismal compared to other races in Austin.

I looked at the swim buoys and start thinking, "Man! How am I ever going to swim that? That looks like a very long distance from the bridge. I have never done it in one go." There's no turning back.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).
