Sunny
Total Time = 7h 06m 18s
Overall Rank = 93/118
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 11/13
Pre-race routine:

Orange Juice and a banana. Set up transition area. Tim Horton's medium coffee and cinnamon raisin bagel w/ lt cream cheese. Returned to transition dressed for the swim. Used old socks to keep feet warm. Gel 15 minutes before the swim.
Event warmup:

Drank coffee.
Swim
  • 1h 13m 10s
  • 2112 yards
  • 03m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

Wet suit zipper broke and I had a 4" hole in my suit. My suit immediately filled with cold water. I was hypothermic before the first buoy and started vomiting. I had to stop and get on a paddle board for about 20 minutes to warm up. I seriously considered DNF,
What would you do differently?:

Not swim in a broken wetsuit.
Transition 1
  • 09m 29s
Comments:

I was so cold and lost so much energy from swim that It was a struggle to get through the transition. I had difficulty focusing.
What would you do differently?:

I am disappointed in the transition, but the swim went so poorly I struggled in transition
Bike
  • 3h 22m 34s
  • 56 miles
  • 16.59 mile/hr
Comments:

Between the headwind and recovering from the swim the out portion of the bike was tough. I struggled on the first half of the ride. The ride from the monument to Tawas was fun and fast. Tailwind and downhill.
I am happy with the nutrition and hydration plan.
I peed on the bike for the first time ever.
What would you do differently?:

Again the poor swim ruined the bike.
Transition 2
  • 07m 6s
Comments:

Slow transition and I had to pee.
Run
  • 2h 14m
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

Run was the highlight of my day.
Post race
Warm down:

cold watermelon

What limited your ability to perform faster:

the hole in my wet suit

Event comments:

The race is a great race and 3 Disciplines puts on a great event.

My issue is that I am currently deployed and training outside is proving difficult, especially on the bike. I have found a safe 10km running loop but I am struggling with the bike training.
