Subject: RE: Anyone live in Herndon? Sorry just being a wanker! I had to. Your route looks pretty good to me. Some random comments and thoughts below. As an FYI I ride in/out from Farifax so I take the W&OD route you show from Vienna station. Only difference for me is that I'm in Cap Hill area so I jump down to the Mt Vernon Trail and go over the Arlington Memorial Bridge then along the mall to 3rd street. That saves me a couple miles of the real heavy commuter traffic (Indep./Const Ave, etc.) Not sure if your destination is exactly as shown on the Map in DC but you may want to look at my route as discussed above to say out of M Street traffic for a bit. Not sure if you've ridden the route or at least the parts on the W&OD, but be warned that there is a lot of stop and go along this route so you never really get to open it up like you on the W&OD headed out your way and west. As an FYI I'll normally ride in the 17-18MPH range when I go out for training rides, my commuting rides usually average 14.5MPH, give or take. The FFX Co. Parkway piece should be fine, you've got the trail the whole way. Although that would be a slow go as well. When I was younger (about 15 years ago) I lived off of Popes Head road and I used to ride the parkway up to the W&OD all the time, but I usually rode in the shoulder. Not sure if I'd do that now though seems like much more traffic. |
