Title says it all. I found an Aerospoke rear wheel used on CL for about 80 USD. After getting my cassette switched over to it, I happened to read all of the universal hate directed at them. I can't find wind tunnel data, but there is a lot of anecdotal evidence form Velodrome riders that they are great wheels that offer an advantage. I also read about their supposedly amazing strength for heavier riders (I'm 200 lbs. even)

I can say this. While I was talking with the guy who sold it, I spun the wheel and let it keep spinning on the hub while we talked. The bike was sitting upside down, so the wheel just spun freely...for over four minutes!

At any rate, it makes me feel fast. So that's all that matters now...right?

So, anyone have experience with them?

it's not an "aero" wheel, despite looking it. It should be near indestructible though, looks cool and if you got it for $80 you got a deal... some Hipster out there will pay more than that for it when/if you decide to sell it :D

True. It also weighs less than my old wheel cover/cheap wheel setup too.

I'm jumping back into the long-distance races next year and I'm wondering the best way to spend my money? Should I buy a new bike or a powermeter and race wheels?

We are often asked the question, "What size frame should I buy" and the answer is “it depends”. I know that’s not the answer you want to hear, but hopefully the following will shed some more light.

In February, I was given a very special gift: a gift certificate to buy a nice road bike. That's when I realized there was no turning back. I WAS doing this.

Well I said that I was not going to do it this season, but I cracked. I broke down and bought a new bike. I went out and bought a shiny new Cannondale road bike.
