Subject: Endurolytes vs. Base Salt ?
Despite being fit, normal weight etc. I am a crazy heavy sweater during races- my next race is in Miami and I am looking for something to help compensate for sweat rate while racing. Any recommendations, would be great!

Not sure about Endurolytes but I use the Base salt. The first time using it, I just did the one lick (that the rep suggested) per mile on the run with little help. But thru experimenting, I have found it keeps the cramping away with 4 licks per mile, as I am a heavy sweater too. on the bike I use Infinit, but supplement it with 4 licks every 5 miles. I would usually have bad leg cramps later after the workout, but with these amounts of the Base, I have not had the post workout cramps.

Endurolytes are almost useless.  Compare the label to the competitors.  You can get 4-5x the electrolytes using other products like Salt Sticks or S-Caps.

I haven't compared the labels, but Endurolytes (hammer, right?) seem to work well for me. I use two per bottle and don't normally have issues, whereas, not using them on longer, hotter races causes me cramps.

That being said, I will compare labels.

x2 for S-Caps. I am also a monster sweater and will cramp on hot days. Once I started using S-Caps that problem was solved. I start with 2 then 1 every hour and that works well for me.

Mmm BASE Salt. Endurolytes messed up my GI. Not so with BASE.

Endurolytes makes an "extreme" version now. I've tried them and like them okay. Recently was given a tube of base salt and like it as well. I find it easier to take base than pills...

Ultimately, everyone has an opinion, and things work differently for different people.

With that, one of the best measure to determine how to replace the sodium is to know exactly what your sweat rate is, and how much salt you are losing.  Of course, not everyone has the opportunity to get those test done.

With Endurolyte, Salt Stick, etc... the sodium is contained in a tablet that is ingested.  The capsule itself expands with the stomach acid and is then released into your system.  By the time it is released, you may only get about 40% of the original content due to the way it is broken down by your stomach acids.  For me, the expanding capsules also caused GI issues.  The sodium worked for me to keep the fatigue and cramping at bay, but I could never get over the GI issue.

The BASE salt is done by the simple flip of the top, lick the thumb, flip the tube, lick the thumb again and move on.  It has worked well for me, and has greatly reduced the GI issues(I have other nutrition issues).  Due to the direct absorption in the mouth, the absorption rate appears to be about 90% as opposed to the 40% from the capsules.  The BASE salt can also be put directly into your drink mix (SALTSTICK has a section about opening the capsules into water bottle)  It made my drink mix a little too salty for my taste.  It also makes for a great Margarita Rim salt during the off season if you have leftover.

Used to use endurolytes, switched to base salt at a race-- now use it exclusively.. there is good science behind tasting salt on your tongue and neurologic "reset" during cramping and seems to work! (no, I am not a representative of the company.. maybe I should be).. but seriously did make a huge difference for me..

I have used a combination of Salt Stick and Sport Legs -usually one of each, before and every hour during the bike.
I tried BASE and so very much wanted to love it but it tears my stomach up every time and have had every run using it interrupted with potty breaks.
It is hard for me. In an 1 hour sweat test I lost 6 pounds so I am a salty sweater.
However, it is difficult for me to find the right amount of salt for a race at a different location (less humidity). In 2013 I did the same thing at IMAZ I do here in TX and it tore my stomach up. Porta potty every mile after 11 on the run. Not a good time.

I used Endurolytes last season for a 70.3 and two full Ironman distances. I felt like they worked well for the most part, but I hadn't used anything in the past. I may try the salt stick this next season to see how it goes (after reading some of the comments). I could tell a HUGE difference from nothing to using Endurolytes for sure.
