Subject: RE: Endurolytes vs. Base Salt ? Ultimately, everyone has an opinion, and things work differently for different people. With that, one of the best measure to determine how to replace the sodium is to know exactly what your sweat rate is, and how much salt you are losing. Of course, not everyone has the opportunity to get those test done. With Endurolyte, Salt Stick, etc... the sodium is contained in a tablet that is ingested. The capsule itself expands with the stomach acid and is then released into your system. By the time it is released, you may only get about 40% of the original content due to the way it is broken down by your stomach acids. For me, the expanding capsules also caused GI issues. The sodium worked for me to keep the fatigue and cramping at bay, but I could never get over the GI issue. The BASE salt is done by the simple flip of the top, lick the thumb, flip the tube, lick the thumb again and move on. It has worked well for me, and has greatly reduced the GI issues(I have other nutrition issues). Due to the direct absorption in the mouth, the absorption rate appears to be about 90% as opposed to the 40% from the capsules. The BASE salt can also be put directly into your drink mix (SALTSTICK has a section about opening the capsules into water bottle) It made my drink mix a little too salty for my taste. It also makes for a great Margarita Rim salt during the off season if you have leftover. |
