Subject: First timer!
Hello,

I am writing to get some advice for a first time triathlon. I am torn between doing a sprint or an Olympic distance. I am confident in my running and biking that I could do the Olympic. I've yet to start the swimming portion. I don't want to do the sprint and then come out thinking I could have done more! But on the other hand just because I can do those distances individually doesn't mean it'll be a good result in a first triathlon. Any advice on how to make this decision? I plan on doing the Chicago triathlon summer 2016. Or something in the area. I'm 28 and new to this as a sport. Also, I've been suffering with IT band issues on both sides. I am doing a lot better! I'm super excited that I've reached the distance of a half marathon for running!

Thank you,
Trisha

If you have until 2016, that will give you plenty of time to build up the swim...and give your ITband a rest.  It'll be a good goal, and you can always do the sprint if closer to race day things change.  Good luck and welcome!

I never imagined that 350 yards broken down into 7 REALLY long lanes would be so big! I gasped out loud and told Grady that maybe I had underestimated the swim.
