Just for fun; what are people's go-to's to calm pre-race jitters on race week?

I like to spend as much time as I can in the water warming up before the race.  I'm usually one of the first ones in the water and one of the last ones out before the start.  If I can I'll swim out to the first course buoy and back.

I like to swim to the point where my HR and breathing have gotten past any initial spikes and where I'm almost starting to feel a little fatigue.  At that point I seem to feel a lot calmer and relaxed.

Do more races.

After doing a lot of races it all becomes just another day, just another race. I worried myself sick waiting for the starting cannon of my first Ironman. Now, after I get T1 set up and my wetsuit on and my earplug in I find an out of the way spot and catch some sleep.

Find a routine that works for you and stick to it. 3 days before a race, I start making sure I get enough liquids in me and increase the sleep by an extra hour per night. I do a few easy bikes and runs in those days.

The night before a race, I use my NormaTechs and then go to get early. The morning of the race, I take a shower (just a nice way to walk up and keeps your muscles loose), eat something small and have a cup of coffee. Once I get to the race, I set up in transition, go for a short run (just to warm up) and find a spot where I'm away from people (usually half way out on the run), stretch and visualize the race.

The more races you do, the less you will allow the nerves to affect you. A certain degree of nervous energy is good.

For me, pre-race jitters are a good thing.  It is my bodies way of telling me that this is something more than just another training run.  I try to channel that energy into focus on what I am doing.  If I didn't get so excited before a race I probably wouldn't do as many as I do.

I'm stoked to be done with the training, happy I survived it without being injured, and can enjoy my race.

Planning each day helps me.

haha, and here I am thinking I would be the first clever one to say that. Then again, judging by some of the lines I've seen pre-race, we're actually in the majority haha.

I'm like this. Knowing I did the training and that I'm ready keeps me calm. I'm still amped on Ironman race day but really ready to just do the race.

Get there early, set up, hit porta john, then first one in the water for a swim. Makes me feel relaxed. Then find a spot to sit, breathe easy & deep, take in the scene, and then go have fun. Works every time

Race day represents about 0.0054% of my life so far and is getting smaller every day.  Race-day performance isn't likely to cost me my job or my house.  My performance on race day can cost me my dignity, but when I put it in the perspective above, there isn't cause for me to be a jerk, so even that is low-risk.

It was the morning of Ironman Newfoundland 70.3, I felt queasy. I didn't want to eat or drink anything. I had a full blown case of the pre-race HEEBEE GEEBEES.

What most athletes forget to realize is that all the training in the world will go down the toilet if the pacing or the nutrition plan isnt executed properly.
