If I have been in the water for longer than 30 minutes, it takes me several steps, 20-50 yards, to shake the dizziness, when I get out. Not sure if it is actually dizziness, it's like getting land legs back. Is this normal? I am hoping it gets better with the more time in the water.

Try plugging your ears.

2ND on the ear plugs, if the water is cold it can really effect your balance, I never swim with out ear plugs any more after almost falling over several times trying to take off my wetsuit!

3rd vote for ear plugs! I also take Bonine if I'll be in the ocean. (or looking at the ocean, driving to the ocean, watching a movie about the ocean.....) I say Bonine only because it was what I started taking as a little one and it sits well with me. I'm sure Dramamine or some other brand you prefer would work just as well.

Do you have a lot of excess head movement while swimming? If the symptoms are present only when you've been in for 30 min or longer I doubt this is vestibular related (ie related to your ears, ear plugs ore cold water in your ears).

Can you explain "dizzy" without using that word? What's it fele like?

The feeling is like being wobbly or walking drunk. Not really dizzy. I have to make a conscious effort on each step.

Hi this could be a postural drop in blood pressure from being horizontal over a long period whilst working out, when you climb out of the pool your heart rate has decreased and your suddenly upright. I have postural hypotension and this happens to me every time, I get out and upright slowly and take a few small and steady steps, I'll hold onto something if it's there. It s a pain as I'm aware it's slowing my transition but in reality is only seconds.

Is it every swim or just OWS in cold water? That will help you determine between the above orCold water like Suzanne referenced.

Generally I bike for 1.5-2 hours, and by time I'm on my way home I'm shaky. When I get home I usually have a headache and am nauseated. What should I eat before or during my workout to prevent this?
