I'm thinking doing this for 2018. Can anyone tell me a little about this race? It'll be my first IM. Should I be spending a lot of time training for hills? I have a lot to do since I'm only up to running 2.5 miles a run so far!

I suggest you read the race reports, if you haven't already. The search bar will get you easily to those.  You will see that, weather-wise, 2016 and 2017 were VERY different. I did 2017 and jmkizer did 2016.

As for the hills, it really depends on what you are used to. For me (I live in a hilly area) the bike wasn't bad at all and the run hills were challenging but do-able (if I'd felt better on the run).

The IMChoo FB group is a great resource if you are on FB.

x2- I'll be doing the race in 2018 and will be training for hills on both bike and run, but more so on the run. Heard it's brutal for about half of the course.

I would argue that it is less than half the course. The hills are on the far  side of the river. What goes up must come down so probably closer to 1/4 (or less) for serious uphill.

I am in for 2018! :-) Hoping to have some conversation on this thread with others that are racing this year.

I'm in as well and it will be my first full. I've signed up before for another and did not come close to toeing the line but this time I will. I agree with you Amy on trying to make this an active thread because it would be nice for me to show up from Texas and at least know 1 or 2 other racers, even if only on paper.

Raced the half last weekend and in for the full this year. I did the 2014 full, but the weather was MUCH nicer.

Here's my race report from the 70.3 with some thoughts on the full.

Hey Ryan! It's been awhile from the ol' Kansas 70.3 days

I'll be at IMCHATT in September as well - good recon about the road conditions. I'm hoping to make it up there for a training weekend this summer as I only live 2 hours away now in Atlanta. If anyone is interested in a training weekend let me know! I'd love to meet up!

Happy training!

Oh yes.... KS 70.3 where it all began. They are still trying to hold on with the Legends races. I'm racing this Sunday, but they called it a "very small race". So, probably dying out completely after this year.

I did it in 2014 and didn't remember it being that soul draining to ride the chip seal. Amazing what 4 years will wipe out. Hopefully it's not in the 90's like the past few years on race day!

I was not an official; I simply observed the race and the officials doing their thing. Here is what I saw:
