I have been using my wetsuit in the pool lately. to mainly get used to the feel, and breathing in it. That being said, is there anything I need to do for the care of the suit, other than a good rinsing every time. I have been told that chlorine will shorten a wetsuits life a lot faster than fresh and saltwater.

Wetsuits and chlorine ... should not mix! (or minimally anyway)

Rinse the wetsuit in cool water BEFORE as well as after.

Orca (and a few other brands) have a wetsuit model that's chlorine-resistant.

Wetsuits are ruined by Chlorine. They fade, get stiff, and it degrades the material. I teach SCUBA and one season of pool work pretty much ruins a good wetsuit.

That said, occasional use, with a good, thorough rinse afterward shouldn't have much of an effect. I wouldn't do it more than I had to, in order to get a "feel" for swimming in the suit, but beyond that, it's unnecessary, unless the pool is outdoor and unheated.

Yeah, rinse it well after (not before or else you won't be able to put it on) then when you get home, wash it with McNett wetsuit shampoo.

ETA: Correction, you can rinse it before but wait until you put it on first.

That's news to me. I have an old Zoot suit, a Blue70 high end suit, cheapy Profile Design and a new high end Roka. Other than the Roka, they have all been in the pool over 20 times with no degradation. Rokas been in 5x now.

I think the cholorine/wetsuit theory is way overblown.

Why have my wetsuits been in the pool so much you might ask? Well, I want to swim really well in them, so I practice. This is also over the course of 10 years and 4 swims a week.

Thanks for the info on the McNett Shampoo, I'll be getting some. I know Xterra reduces the warranty from 1 year to 6 months if used in a pool.

I was a bit skeptical since regular body wash and shampoos don't really seem to do the trick. But it really works!

I'm doing my first tri Saturday. It starts at 7 AM and the forecast is calling for a high of 82 (air temp). Do I need to rush out and get a wetsuit?

This is a 'first impressions' review of the Fit2Race Sockeye Fullsuit. From a first wetsuit point-of-view, I was able to dramatically improve my pace over non-wetsuit swims.
