I did it! I finished my first Ironman triathlon at Ironman Arizona this past weekend and I feel really happy about the accomplishment. Here's my race report:

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp...

It's a pretty long read, hehe. I have some questions though for those who can answer.

1. Did I make the right call amping up my bike effort to get warm? I think I got up Z3 for 3 hours.

2. Should I have maintained my "should" pace on the bike and trust that I will get warm?

3. What gear recommendations do you have to combat the rain during the bike and run?

4. How should I have paced myself at the start of the marathon after biking too hard?

I might have more questions later. Thanks guys!

Roland

Nice job, Roland.  I read your RR the other day and was impressed that you stuck it out and overcame your obstacles.  That's a long, tough day.

Just read that race report - WHAT THE FFFFFF. I think I nodded 20 times saying "Seriously!?" Way to overcome when so many odds kept stacking against. What a moment you describe with the blanket group hug. Inspiring

This training plan is written to prepare you for your first Ironman. While just a beginner’s plan, the hours per week start at a significant 8 hours.
