Leeds Elementary PTO
59F / 15C
Overcast
Total Time = 25m 57s
Overall Rank = 14/69
Age Group = Male/Female
Age Group Rank = 12/33
Pre-race routine:

Stretch and run.

Ran 10 miles in prep for the upcoming marathon followed by a 1 mile fun run with the daughter, before toeing the line of the 5k
Event warmup:

The excess miles prior to the event.
Run
  • 25m 57s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

Went out hard to get out front and hoped to hold on. Legs were pretty sore from the first 11 miles, but made them work.

Lungs were holding, but definitely fading toward the last stretch.

Passed three folks within the first 0.5 miles and held on. Heard one person on my heels coming into the final stretch, but fought enough to hold him back.
What would you do differently?:

Not warm up as much or drain the legs as much prior to racing.

Finished my 10 mile run with about 30 minutes before the 1 mile run and then another 30-40 minutes before the 5k. Too much waiting around did me in.
Post race
Warm down:

walked.

Grabbed a banana, granola bar, orange juice, and walked.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Dead legs. Was about 30 seconds off the 5k PR

Event comments:

Good race. Events ran 10-15 minutes behind because organizers wanted to thank everyone before the fun run and the 5k. Seemed a bit much.

Overall, great race. Good turnout, and had lots of fun.

In November of 2000, I noticed that I was losing the feeling in my toes. The sensation traveled up my body and within a week, I was nearly 80% paralyzed.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had weight issues. I remember standing on the scale as a child weighing 60 pounds and feeling fat. My family dealt with stress by eating.
