Anyone have any opinions on this race? Looking at possibly doing it in 2016. Thanks.

I did it in 2012 on the old course for my first him. Super fast bike course then as it started in medical lake and ended in spokane, elevation decrease.

Sin e, they've changed the course. Now t starts in medical lake and bike ends in medical lake, and you run around.the lake.several times. I haven't done it, but has ng trained at medical.lake , the asphalt trail around the lake isn't that wide, cars.width, and I could see a huge congestion problem with many runners on trail.

I have done this race twice on the current course, 2013 and 2015. It was cold at the start, and if I remember right it was around the mid 30's for air temp in 2013. It was so cold that it was a relief to get in the water since there had been some really warm weather the week prior and the lake was in the 60's. My feet didn't get warm until a couple miles into the run. 2015 was pretty darn nice in the morning. Both times it got fairly warm, if not hot, by the time I finished, 5:37 and 5:24.

I think the bike course is kind of boring, and can have some pretty hefty winds from all directions. I also think it's pretty fast? Lots of mid 2 hour splits on the course, not sure if that means anything?

Run course is pretty easy with a few small little hills, the first one is steep but short, if you have ever run around Medical Lake you have seen most of the course already. Again, like the bike course, I think it's a fairly fast course. I never once had an issue with congestion on the run considering 3 laps on the course either time for what it's worth.

I did this race back in... 1991? I think that's right. Obviously the old course. Chuckie V won it that year. Guy is a beast. Wasn't windy that year, but it was hot. Blazing hot. I remember running along the river and trying to keep my feet in the shadow of the guard rail, thinking the pavement might be a little cooler. Sad to think that the course has changed so drastically.

My issue is that I am currently deployed and training outside is proving difficult, especially on the bike. I have found a safe 10km running loop but I am struggling with the bike training.

I strained by lower back last week. I know that I need to rest in order for it to heal fully, but I am concerned that I am going to lose needed fitness for the race. Will this affect my performance?

This is not an easy task, especially for the “9-to-5er” with family. But you can do it – all without sacrificing your marriage, job or family.
