Well, I just watched the remake of the movie Poseidon and in order to get through it I had to empty my mind of all rational thought. So all I can come up with at this moment is "The Long-Haulers". Which makes us sound a little like... uh... truckers.

Pinky swearing is good. The whole long haulers, truckers reference is a little scary. Butt cracks. Budweiser and hats with dumb sayings come to mind. Of course I can't come up with anything better so who am I to judge!!!! Chris

count me in for the mass pinkie swear... I'm just not creative with name suggestions or anything that involves deep thought today.

My daughters and I put our heads together and came up with some name ideas:

The Losers that Tri

Committed Losers

Committed to a better me

Tri'ing 4 a better me

Tri'ing 4 a better body

Lose to Win

Tri 2 Lose

tri'umphant Losers

I wish that reshaping our bodies into healthier fitter us we could use positive words not lose...which sort of has a negative thought...something more positive. Anyone can take these and come up with more ideas.

Tomorrow I want to start a new intro. thread but would like to use our name...but it may take awhile to figure that out ...it would be a great time to take measurements, weight and body fat % to use as a base line.

Out of curiosity, how does one calculate body fat %? I don't have monetary access to a trainer right now...just curious if there is a formula of some sort...

i like the "tri to lose" one

umm... body fat scale? most scales in pharmacies have that feature... then there is another way to measure it by some sort of body fat clamps (no clue what they're called)... you have to measure a wrinkle of skin/fat on different spots on your body and then there is some sort of formula to calculate it... that's what my trainer once told me... to me it sounded to complicated and i prefer the body fat scales.

Check some of these out.  There are a lot of different features and a lot of different prices.

Look at the Body Compostion Scales section.  I think I got mine at Bed Bath and Beyond

I like the Tri'umphant Losers.

It is a positive goal stated in the present tense.

I was taught that when you are setting a goal, you subconscience mind only responds to commands given to it in the present tense.  By continually telling ourselves that we are triumphant, it reinforces what we want to achieve. Does that make sense to anyone, or should I go have another cup of coffee before I attempt to post......

I like Tri-umphant Losers, for all the positive reinforcement reasons stated! And cause triumphant is a fun word to use!

Sorry, brain not too well engaged right now...will try to be more clear later!

'The reality is I eat the same things almost everyday...always same breakfast, normally same dinner with change in protein or veggies, lunch varies some but not much.'

If you don't mind sharing, What does a typical eating day consist of for you?

Hey gang...

ran up against my own personal demon today, and still haven't figured out a strategy. Basically the demon is called 'I deserve/I earned...' for example:

I did a 2K swim today (over a mile), I had a bagel w/cream cheese and fruit afterwards, a bar and some pretzels beforehand. So far so good. Then I go to meet DS and DH at Universal and ride a few rides, drink some water. Then we decide to stop for lunch at Bubba Gumps...well...(brain talk)

*I deserve* to stop for lunch, I got up at dawn to go to the lake and swim, then walked around the theme park all morning, shouldn't have to scrounge for lunch at home. *I deserve* to order a fish sandwich with cheese, and make that the fried fish not broiled, and of course I'll have the fries that come with it. After all, *I earned* a little leeway in my eating with that great workout. And since I'm drinking unsweetened tea instead of a beer *I deserve* it, right? And why eat a SALAD of all things at Bubba Gumps, I mean, get what they are good at, fried seafood, right?

So this doesn't sound like too big of a deal, and I don't go nutso on portions or calories, didn't even finish the fries, but honestly with my metabolism I am not losing weight with 1700-2000 calories a day I eat, even with the exercise thrown in. I am not gaining, but still not losing.

I know lots of tricks and facts, but how do you change that brain talk that thinks that food is a reward for working out? I have such a hard time seeing the long-term goal. It was easier when I was single, too....argh....

Anyone else with me in this boat?

Totally agree with you! I'll sit down for breakfast with a small bowl of oatmeal or cereal, head out for a two hour bike ride, get home, and then say that I deserve it so why not make a sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit with hasbrowns thrown in. Why? Because I biked for two hours today. I am in the exact same boat you are in, I eat between 2000 and 2500 calories per day (weight currently at 179, want it to be 160-165) and I don't lose any. I guess what I need to do is to take it day by day and really try to concentrate on ordering (if you eat out) a healthier version of what you normally would get (broiled fish instead of fried) I think that if you can lose those first couple of pounds, that will be the reward so that you won't have to reward yourself with food. Just a couple of thoughts. Good Luck!

Kathy,

Count me in for the challenge... I have experienced some professional difficulties leading to too much crap to discuss now and 4 hrs of daily commuting until my house sells, but I am back at training and ready to get back on the weight loss bandwagon. I blew off a HIM this summer and gained WAY to much weight. Please help keep me on track to race that HIM next summer!
