13/22 - Walk - 40m - 2.00 miles
Subbed at Jersey Shore yesterday. Got a quick 2 miles in walking the hallways during my Prep period. Why did it take me longer than out on the Valley Rd course? I suspect it is because I am simply walking laps in an enclosed hallway and have no way to judge my pace.

14/22 - Walk - 35m 17s - 2.00 miles - 17m 38s /Mi
36 CWWC pts.

Brrrrrrrr! 27* outside and I went for a walk. Not under 35, but I'm not complaining. At least I got out there, after a few days of nothingness.

14/22

Due to some family things going on in the last few weeks, plus holidays, plus awful weather, I have not achieved my number goal. 14 days out of 22.

Distance and volume achievements:

My November totals (distance - time)
Bike - 20 miles - 90 minutes
Run - 20 miles - 240 minutes
Swim - 6,970 yards (really??) - 174 minutes

10% increase goal:
Bike - 22 miles or 99 minutes
Run - 22 miles or 264 minutes
Swim - 7,667 yards (geez...) or 191 minutes

December actuals:
Bike: 50 miles, 3 hrs 27 minutes - WOW! Achieved
Run: 28.2 miles, 5 hrs 14 minutes - made it
Swim: 4,640 yards, 1 hr 56 minutes

I am not sad about swimming, since I made a huge improvement in my stroke (I did 3x100 today!!), and I also did well with run and bike.
I am ready for a new month and new year

Mary

Right now I feel like such a hypocrite. I started this regular monthly Challenge thread of my own. And yet, since I started it, I have only met my own challenge one month out of the last four, none since September. Each month has started off great. But about halfway to two-thirds of the way through the month it just peters out, like this month when I only got 14 out of my planned 22 workout days in and nothing for over a week now. Then all this crap with WTC taking over B2B and losing my intended HIM. It really dropped a wet blanket on my motivation, and the way things went with our daughter and her family for Christmas didn't help that any. Robin, thanks for caring enough to keep "pestering" me back into it.

New plan for 2016 still has the February Idita-Trail race, a May sprint, a June 10k, July's 40k time trial, and my A-race will be the local Lumberjack sprint now. Unless I find something extraordinary in Oct/Nov 2016 I am now planning to switch my HIM to early 2017. But first, I HAVE to actually meet my upcoming January challenge, fighting my way through all the "Resolutionists" at the YMCA.

Don't feel this way. This is why it's called "challenge", and not just a tracking of monthly training activities.
Training for triathlon is not easy-breezy. It takes a lot of time, commitment, sacrifice. It gets harder for us who work and/or have family and school, or health issues. I'm sorry about you Christmas family situation. My dad died just a week before Christmas and I was not able to focus on any training for over a week. There will always be things that would either slow us down or keep away from training. Sometimes it may be something silly like weather condition. But every month we keep going

I am actually very thankful for you for doing this challenge posts I am new to the sport and this challenge helps me stay focused. I have not completed 22 days, but I did 14. Last year in December I did none...

You have some great races coming up next year. Keep doing this great job. I am looking forward to January challenge!!

Wow! Thank you so much Mary. Community support is the biggest reason I stay in the BT community. As the nearest tri club to me is over two hours away, you folks really are the only "training partners" that I have.

I'm curious about the 'don't increase your run by more than 10% per week' rule. Is there a minimum mileage under which this doesn't apply?

I'm doing the 22 week sprint tri program and the 2 mile bike ride it starts with is not very challenging. I see this as a opportunity to train the right way and challenge myself. Any ideas?

The boat was being tossed around. Someone noted that there were whitecaps on the waves. Another guy said, “This is going to be challenging.” I began to wonder what he meant by 'challenging'.

How should I go about training for the marathon while also building base in the other two events? Doing this seems like it's causing me to break the 10% rule in running.

Yes, the Dual is a little heavier than Cervèlo’s high end counterparts. But…the price is within reach of the masses and it still incorporates all of the design features that make a Cervèlo special.
