Chris, I am in for Oceanside for first time. Excited to get some hill training in for this race vs. IMAZ. Maybe even a Donut ride or two.

Hoping my knee gets healed up soon so I can start running again.

So you are doing Oceanside and then Chattanooga in May? Plus SOS and then Cozumel? Busy year.

Great Steven, it's an excellent race. Hopefully your knee issues resolve, sounds like it reared up during IMAZ

I'm actually in a Facebook triathlon group that your coach is also in. I'll seND am invite if you (and your coach ) want

Yeah, cozumel is a potential late add on as its a week before my 50th and we love diving there. But flat, hot and windy...

I am in again too, after last year poor performance due to stomach bug (I couldn't keep anything down the entire race and they tried to pull me on the run but I finished) I need to redeem myself. just starting to build a base with my wife who this will be her 2nd time race Oceanside.

I just saw a notice on Facebook that Pendleton is instituting some new regulations that will require cyclists to pre register to get base access from the harbor entrance to las Pulgas. Just in case anyone was heading down for a recon ride

Thanks Chris! This is true. I have a group ride scheduled there and you need to fill out a form.

How's training going for everyone? I'm building a good base so far but haven't gotten much swimming in, hehehe.

Oh and Chris, is that swim strategy you suggested from 2013's race still okay to use? It's the one you mentioned using after the halfway point.

Thanks for asking. I didn't run the whole month of Dec. Did a ton of strength training and PT on it. Started running again at end of Dec and built up mileage slowly during Jan up to 20-25 mpw. Feels great. Did a 10K race on Sunday and very happy with results. Fitness not 100% but will be by race time.

You recover from your freezing cold AZ experience??

Nice! About recovering from freezing at IMAZ, physically yeah. I'm also finally getting over the negative psychological effect. I'm finding as I run and ride more that feeling goes away. Whew!

I'm still building my fitness back up as well. Did you notice the LA River bike path being closed the past few weekends?

I checked with the RD re our access and they're "looking into it."  I registered on the Camp P site anyway just in case as I'll likely be heading down for a pre ride at some point

I had a great Nov-Dec running wise, but came back from my crash / time off too soon I think with too much load, trying to train for a marathon (which has been bagged).  Having to take off a little time from running this week, hopefully back at it next week.  But my paces are nowhere near what i was running this time in 2013, last time i did Oceanside, so I am not expecting much this year.  Really this is more of a get back on the course with other racers event, have to say i'm more nervous riding with other triathletes racing than I am riding with cars.

Swim and bike are... ummm.  ok i guess LOL.  Trying not to make it too much of a sufferfest.

And that's the swim plan I intend to use.  That part at least never changes, even though everything else seems to.

You all saw the event schedule with a mandatory bike check in Friday?  That's new to me, may be new altogether.

Godo to hear you're back in training man! I too am gonna race to enjoy the event. My A race will be the Las Vegas 70.3 happening in October.

Bike check in on Friday? Wow! That's new to me too.

I'll be on the lookout for you on the course.

I'll look for you as well. I'll be in red polka dots.

Swim waves are also up. First time I did this race in 2006 I started in the very front. Couple years later relegated to the back. New age group has me smack in the middle!

Cool man. Dang, I'm in the last wave, hehehe!

Been down and out with a cold for a week now. NO activity what so ever. Not ideally my plan for training for 1st HIM. I am probably 80-85% right now. Do I get out and do something? Maybe a slow methodical bike ride and a easy 12 min pace couple of miles or keep it easier than that?

The weather in H.B. is so perfect today, so don't want to do nothing.

Help!!

Sometimes doing activities will aid in your recovery. Maybe some easy biking and running to keep your muscles loose but avoid swimming since you still have a cold.

Yikes, wave 18 for me. Hope it's not too hot. Chris does bike course get crowded?

It's not too bad, pretty wide open course.  I was in the rear waves for a while, there are a lot of opportunities for legal slingshotting from that position.  Only areas you need to worry about are the first no pass zone at Trestles just before the Christianitos right turn, and the no pass/speed limit zone after the second climb.

I will likely be heading down one Saturday to ride the frontside and run a bit of the run course, maybe one loop.  Given timing and vacation schedule likely 2/27 or 3/19, if anyone is interested (make sure you register at Camp P's website tho).

Thanks.

Let me know when you plan to head down. Might be able to do 3/19 if I can leave a kid at mother in laws.

Damn, I broke my toe last Sunday so I can't do any training for at least a month. I might heal by race day and participate since I can't get my money back. It will be a long training day, hehehe.
