Pre-race routine:

Evening fun run. Spent all day decorating, at a luncheon and shopping....Got to the race site about 20 minutes before start time--enough time to take some pictures and finding a friend who was volunteering.
Event warmup:

Hang out looking at the other people's crazy costumes. Mrs Santa had battery packs in her hat and strapped to her legs. Snowball was crazy too.

Comments:

It was warm out. Had to rethink my original plans for my outfit. Wore another long sleeved shirt that was a tech fabric thinking it would breathe more....By the first quarter mile I had pulled off my hat and the big goofy glasses cause the hat was too hot and the glasses limited my peripheral vision.
There was no delineation of runners verses walkers in the mass start so it was a congested clusters*** of sorts. BUT, we weren't doing this for time or pace. Just for fun and the goofy medal that can be used as an ornament if we want..
Miss Thing ran with me, she had a hectic semester and didn't train much--if at all....By the first mile she stopped to walk. I kept running. I did stop on a fairly large hill to talk and take some pictures of a house that had a full spread of Disney theme going on.
Got to about mile 2 and caught up to Pamela and Dana from the Megsmiles group. Ran with them for a bit then kept going. The neighborhood was very nice. Completely closed off to traffic and all the people came out to cheer, take pictures...play holiday music or movies. Some houses offered jello shots and cookies, others had candy canes.
I walked some in mile 2-3, between the hills and how warm it was I just didn't feel good---plus some people had bonfires going and the smoke isn't compatible with my asthma.
Finished well, got my medal and on my way past Santa I grabbed a kiss.
What would you do differently?:

Well, Miss Thing stopped to pet every dog and for every jello shot that was offered.....I was driving home so no jello shots for me. But since we were doing it for fun I should have just hung back with her--but we had an agreed upon meet up spot post race. The food tent where our friend was volunteering. So there wasn't any real in search of for each other after the fact. Just stand the ground and wait for each other.
I would have worn shorter sleeves if I had something red or Christmas themed in short sleeves. It's December and it was 75 degrees mid afternoon.
Post race
Warm down:

Found the ports pots that I hadn't seen pre race.
Waited for Miss Thing at our designated meet up

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Warm out....this is about the pace I have had for a while so I ran within my current ability though my HR was definitely on the higher end of the spectrum for me.

Event comments:

Lots of fun post race things going on but other than the cookie table there were fees associated ....but it was fun. Plenty of volunteers and fun course.

Ha ha ha, great pics!  Sounds like a very fun time, and very cool you were able to do it with Miss Thing.  Dogs and Jello shots distract me, too.

A bike is NOT a piece of metal with a couple of wheels at either end and a steering thing to stop you running over old ladies. No! ... a bike is a space-age “weapon of mass confusion.”
