Subject: Base Training for 70.3
Greetings, sexy people. I'm signed up for IM 70.3 Santa Cruz (9/11/16), which means I have 9 months to get trained up. I plan to do Don Fink's Ironfit 70.3 program (either the "Just Finish" or "Intermediate") which is 16 weeks and will being in May 2016. My question to the masses; can anyone recommend a base training program to follow? I realize my current fitness would determine what course to follow, but I'm seeking input anyways. I'd consider myself "Beginnermediate" at this point.

I can do a mile swim in around 35 minutes. My avg. bike speed is 17-18mph for 30 miles(ish) before I fatigue too much, and my run is a 9:50-10:00/mi for 5-6 miles. I've got two Sprints under my belt, and plan to do an Oly mid-summer as a warm-up race.

Any and all advice is welcome and appreciated.

I'm almost in the same boat. I'm signed up for Augusta, two weeks after your race (9/25). I plan to race once/month, until then, starting in March.....and I plan to do the Lake Logan International in August (I think it's around the 10th).

I JUST started back running (runner's knee). Before last week, my last run was 10/17. I'm doing 33min. runs (this week)....5X. I've been swimming with my masters class since August of last year (swim is my weakest discipline). My tri group rides 3X/wk.....and I'll ramp up as my (main) event draws nearer.

8 mos. (IMO) is a LONG time. While I certainly respect the distance, there's not one thing I'm anxious about. Good luck.

To help build up your bike power, you might have a look at the BT Winter Cycling Program Challenge 2015 - 2016

    http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp...

To this, add three or more swims per week and do your best to follow the Barry P running plan, and you ought to be in great shape once your 70.3 plan begins.

    Good luck in Santa Cruz!
