Subject: Run 1000 miles in 2016

These simple rules have been handed down from antiquity. (Or maybe they've just been pasted from the 2015 challenge.) Who wants to run at least 1,000 miles in the year? Join in and report on your progress. Some people will definitely have higher goals and that is ok. But the thread is for all those that want to at least hit the 1,000 mile mark in running (or walking or run/walking).

Here's the tracking spreadsheet...
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17VWciD8tPAvVijWJG9mhn3bNpUQk...

Last year my goal was 1243 miles (2000 km), but I have dialed it back to 1000 miles (1609 km) for 2016. I'm not sure that I want a heavy run focus this year.

Good luck to all participants. I hope your running is fun and injury fee in 2016.
Don

I'd like to give this a shot - although realistically my target is around 800 miles. I'll fix that tonight.

I ran my fastest half marathon this past October and would like to trim a few more minutes off that time. I figure without a coach the best way to improve my speed is with a lot of easy miles.

Wish me luck.

Bruce.

I did some basic calculations based on my general training plan for the year. And it covers around 780 miles. I think +/- I may be able to squeeze few more Why not!

I am going to join as well.
I am also in the Slowtwitch 100 runs in a 100 days challenge.
I did 962 miles last year, so hopefully I will get over the hump this year.
I qualified for Boston, which I will be running this April and I have 2 Ironman races and a 1/2 Ironman race planned. About 6 half marathons sprinkled in there as well. Then the Dopey Challenge for early 2017.
It should be a good year.

Is something up with the spreadsheet? I opened the link at the top of the page and the only entry there was for Don - all the old data was gone.

Anyway - I'm at 31 miles so far. Easily on target for my goal of 851 miles this year (110% of last years total, and building a buffer for later when I lose focus and fall off the training wagon for a couple of months.

Bwingate, I was able to pull up the spreadsheet. Did you click on the 2016 tab in the bottom? If so, it might be your version of Excel; one of my work computers can't pull up the spreadsheet.

I'm in. Nice to see so many people in here! I'm at 30.6 miles right now.

Looks like I got wiped from the spreadsheet. Maybe because I never officially announced I'm in.

Uh-oh.
My name was still there but my mileage disappeared. Some other names that were there previously are gone so some participants will need to reenter their name. I don't know what happened, but anyone can delete or overwrite the spreadsheet so please be careful!

If your entry disappeared you're not obligated repeat the distance that you have already run.

Don

Yes - I checked all the tabs to be sure - thought maybe I put my prior entries into last year.

When I open the spread sheet, it opens in a tab in Internet explorer - but I don't see a save button, so I just close the tab when I'm done. Is that right?

Thanks,
Bruce

I see you there now. I assume that you added your name back in? Something funny definitely happened to the names. Fortunately there's only one entry per person (total mileage) so it's easy for us to re-enter our info. If the same thing were to happen to the Crappy Winter Weather Challenge it would create a lot more chaos because a lot of weekly info would be lost. If anyone is running in a cold climate you might consider the Crappy Weather Challenge.

Yeah - I put myself back in - it was just one entry so it wasn't too bad.

I'm at 43.9 miles - on track for 1000 this year.

I've been pushing myself pretty hard the last couple of months and was really dragging this morning so I cut my run short. I'm also doing almost all my running on the treadmill (and all my biking on the trainer). Mostly because last winter here was so brutally cold I just gave up on running until March. Although its a bit boring, its scheduled and planned so hopefully I'll keep at it. And hope for the roads come spring.

I need a challenge to get me motivated for 2016. Hope you all have some room for me.

A little backstory on myself: I'll be 47 in March. I took some time off to recover from plantar fasciitis issues following a 2014 marathon, that turned into not doing much of anything since. My weight is up and my fitness is down. Need to get going again, and these challenge groups always help me.

I've got a few runs this year saved on my Garmin, but haven't uploaded them yet. I'm certainly behind the rabbit as of today, and it'll probably take me a few months to build up my endurance to catch up.

Thanks.

I'm right around 90 miles for this month - definitely on track for 1000, but with the slump I experience around September, I might need this cushion.

If it weren't for the blizzard that hit the Northeast, I would have cracked a 100 mile month for the first time in a long time. Still have time if things go close to planned.

Good luck

Hit 100 miles in a month for the first time in a long time, although I have been in the 90's for the last two months or so. All of these miles have been on the treadmill. Every. last. one. I play games, but there is only so much you can do to make running in place seem interesting. I'm looking forward to the spring.

I tip my hat to you. Seriously. That is major dedication.

88 miles for me. I'm behind but hopefully will catch up during the spring.

Okay, I am a little behind on the thread here, but now it makes sense.  I was into the spreadsheet the other day.  I was certain that I had put myself on there at the start of the year, but wasn't there.  Sounds like there were some issues.  Anyway I am back on there; moving slowly, but just started a HIM training plan so will be building.  Hope everyone is staying healthy!

I had a major cold that knocked me out for a week. I was mostly OK afterwards, but my energy was just sapped. Nothing left after getting home from work eat and bed - what a lousy two weeks.

But I'm back on track now, and if all goes well, I have a half marathon in Central Park next Sunday. Should be fun.

I just returned from two weeks vacation in Mexico. I was planning on doing a lot of running but my wife and I both got sick, and when I was feeling a little better I decided to be smart and take it easy. So I enjoyed a lot of relaxing time at the beach with my wife.

I was just getting even with the pace bunny before my vacation so I have fallen behind and now I have a bit of catching up to do. I'm not used to being in the red - in 2015 I got out ahead of the pace bunny early and stayed there all year. No reason to panic - with some steady sensible miles I should be able to reel him in.

I think quite truly for the first time I 'get it'. It's not just about the fitness. It's not just about the great little endorphin rush as you hit 5, 10, 15 miles...its not just the medal at the end.
