For bike commuting, I used to ride down to about -25C - after that I just didn't have enough clothing to make the 30 minute ride bearable. For training, assuming roads were in good condition, about -10C would be my limit for riding and usually then for about 75 minutes or so.

50 for me anymore. I really don't like to be cold for an hour+ and riding indoor is very convenient for me.

That sounds like a great idea! I'll be trying this on my next ride as my feet are my limiters...To the OP, I'll ride down to 25F for up to 90 minutes before the cold takes hold and only if the roads are dry. If this toe warmer idea works, I'd likely get to 20F.

I did one ride in the fall where the starting temp was maybe 40-45 and I was pretty miserable, but I didn't really have the right gear for the weather. I got some new gloves and a jacket for Christmas, so hopefully when spring rolls around those temps will be doable.

I am California born and raised so not the biggest fan of the cold. At 40 F or above I don't have any issues riding outside. I will go out in the 35-39 range if properly motivated like a group ride. Below 35 and I am hitting the gym.

I have found that with the clothing/gear that I own, my cold limit is 25°F, dry, mostly sunny, little to no wind.

I do mostly gravel rides outdoors this time of year. Mtb shoes, wool knee-highs, chemical toe warmers, neoprene overshoes. Tights and shorts. A few thin long-sleeve wicking shirts, one of which is a turtleneck, cycling jacket. Winter gloves. Balaclava, sunglasses. I can ride for two hours at endurance pace like this.

If I wanted to go colder, I would need to buy things. Cycling boots, xc ski pants, neoprene pogies. I already own ski goggles.

For now, I've decided 25°F is cold enough. I'm not training for any clod weather events, so I simply don't need that many toughness points. The trainer works just fine.

I've got a fatbike and ride in the snow all winter. I've always been one to dread the trainer or spin class, so riding in the cold has opened up a new world - I actually really enjoy getting out there when the snow is falling. It's gorgeous, and no one else is out! Coldest I've done is about -5F. I have pogies on my handlebars for anything below about 15-20 degrees. I'll also ride my road bike when it's below freezing, but it takes warmer clothes since you're moving faster and have more windchill - I honestly prefer my mountain bike, even on the roads, to keep the effort high and the speed down a bit when it's really cold.

That looks really fun! Unfortunately we don't get much snow here, it just gets cold and ices.

I did suck it up today and broke out some toe covers and knee warmers and got in a good 2 hour ride at around 29-32 F. It wasn't as bad as thought it was going to be. My hot coffee tasted better than usual after that too.

I think the answer isn't so much what temperature, but what's on the ground.
We have already gone inside because we generally train as a team.
But we could still be outside because it's been in the 40s with no snow.

Last year it was 5 or below with massive snow everywhere.

If there is slush and clag all over, not a chance. But if it's clean and clear ? Sure.

It rarely goes below 0C here, so I ride all winter. It's usually 6-8C and raining which honestly feels a lot colder than 3C and sunny.

I must be soft.
Today here in New York, it's about 18 outside with a stiff cold wind. It's probably close to 5 with the windchill.

I saw a guy on a bike climbing a small short hill on his bike. He wasn't wearing gloves.

Training in the cold can be effective and fun with some planning. Overall, prepare for the environment, stay hydrated and dry, listen to your body and have a great safe cold weather outing.
