Subject: RE: Info on Wrightsville Beach/Wilmington area UNC Wilmington used to have miles of trails on campus. They've torn a lot up but you can still get a good four mile loop on the trails on campus through the woods. The road around campus is low traffic and almost exactly a 3 miles.
Down by Wrightsville beach there is a 2.5 mile loop and another loop crossing the bridge into landfills neighborhood.
The nature preserve down 17 has miles and miles of dirt roads but it's a little ways away 25 minutes.
Carolina beach state park has an 8 mile trail connecting it to fort fisher. It's a little sandy but one of the most beatifil trails you'll run as it follows the water way most of the way,
There is NOT a lot of traffic free riding in the area. When I lived there 15 years ago you could ride around the city no problem. I wouldn't suggest it any more.
Go down to Carolina Beach State park and ride the roads around there to Fort fisher and back. Pretty ride that ends up being close to 15-16 miles there and bike. much less traffic.
Drive out 30 minutes down 74 to whir like lake and you'll have some empty roads to ride.
Not the best outdoor city for excersise. It has grown fast and the city didn't not adjust well to the growth.
I did love living there though but that was 15 years ago not sure how it has changed. |
