Hey there. Just wanted to introduce myself.

I am looking to do a full ironman within 2 years. I know that seems an awful long time, but with kids and work commitments I don't have the flexibility to train more than 3-4 days a week. I have some experience with running, finishing a full marathon last year. Since then I have floundered in life a little bit because I've had no goals to look forward to. Now setting my sights on this has motivated me.

I'm currently a larger guy at 6'3" and 235 lbs (told you I floundered a bit but damn I love oreos), but plan to get down to 200 as a racing weight. I also need the time to learn swimming and biking. I can "do" those activities but I cannot do them with efficiency or great technique which is key in my very uninformed opinion. Also I have no real clues as to the logistics of biking or swimming so I need time for education just as much as I need it for conditioning. And lastly, looking at equipment I also need time to be able to afford all the equipment as I have none outside of running shoes and swim shorts/goggles. Jesus this is a pricey game to get into

Anyway, I look forward to scouring the boards for advice/information and getting into the tri culture.

Brandon

Hi Brandon, welcome to BT!

2 years is not at all a long time in which to aim for full Ironman. In fact ... it's pretty short.

You might look into Don Fink's training programs ... definitely the best bang for the buck if you're strapped for time but want to do Ironman. Cautionary note if you pick his "Just Finish" plan--there is NO wiggle room. You have GOT to do everything in it since it's so stripped-down anyway, and you will need to be in the ballpark for the "just finish" an Ironman times. It's not a plan to get faster on, just to build enough endurance to finish on an easy-to-moderate Ironman course.

Good luck!

For most people, there is a story in how they came to the sport as beginners. Some of the most inspiring of those beginner tales begin with health scares.

My expectations for the quality of this years’ Triathlon world championship were fulfilled. This was because of the superb location that is like no other along with having the top triathletes present.

There is a marvelous destiny out there waiting for you too, but only if you are willing to take chances and put yourself on the line.
