I feel like I have no problem entertaining my mind during the run (with plenty of what you guys described).
My problem is with longer swims: what do you think about during 30 minutes of swim that feels longer than two hours long run??
I once tried to do some math problems, and my form completely broke... So no more intellectual stuff. But it really makes me wonder about others' thoughts.

In the pool, for me, it was (I haven't been in the pool in over a year) a combination of lap count and paying attention to form. Sometimes my lap count would be in the form of alphabet and I would use that to pray for people who's names started with those letters

Omg that's a great idea! I am freaking out I will get lost in lap counting in my upcoming tri (they said we'll have to count our own laps, ugh...). I'm gonna do the letters and names )))

Why it’s so hard for us to talk about losing at a simple game? Sports are supposed to be about building positive character, supposed to be about fairness, equality, and striving for excellence.

The triathletes really inspired me. I watched them in awe as childlike thoughts went through my head like, "I want to do that!" But then reality set in. “Who are you kidding?

Near the end of one of my long runs, I noticed my left hip aching. There was a slight pop with each step. The hip was sore for 2 days after the run.

I recognize that my 45 minute jog Wednesday night does not really count as a ”long” run, but for me it was! Yesterday I felt fine…but man, today the legs are SORE.
