Subject: hybrid tire on mountain bike
I am looking to setting up my son's mountain bike for a sprint race next month with some smooth / hybrid tires. It's a 29'er. Which size tires should I be looking for? I've heard that "maybe" 700 fit, or just a regular 29 in tire that is smooth? What about the inner tube, since the mtb tires are pretty big? I'd like to keep the cost per tire under $30.

700's will fit. I'd recommend going with a wider tire so that you get a good seat on the bead.
