Subject: Race schedule question.
I'm doing IMTX 3 weeks from today. This will be my first 140.6, training has went well and I feel prepared. My question is will I have time to recover and train to race IM Racine 70.3 on July17th?

How much time do you take off after doing a 140.6

Independent for everyone but yes. Take 1 week off with no running and very easy light, short sessions for swim/bike. Add the run as your body allows and you start to feel good. Most people (if they race the Ironman hard) have some residual fatigue that shows up about 1-2 weeks post Ironman.

Eat well, sleep tons, you won't loose much fitness, just need to let your body recover.

How well you recover is based on many variables, how well you trained, how hard you raced, weather conditions at Texas, etc.

Just go with it, experiment and see what happens.

What Ben said is pretty spot on.  The recovery thing for an IM is really dependent on how hard you went at it on race day.  The recovery for someone who ran a 3:45 IM marathon is very different from someone who mostly walked for six hours.  Running beats you up a lot more than walking.  Weather conditions can also play a factor.  IMTX will likely be hot and humid and that can beat you up.  I did IMTX the first year (2011) and it was 91 degrees and humid.  I was out of sorts for about a month.
