Is the MyAthletelive sill the best/only real time tracker out there? I know the IM has their updates, but with the wife and three kids attending it would be nice to let them know when and where to see me without having to wait hours. One of the kids is only a year old so staying in one place for longer than 10 minutes is hard to do.

I've used it 3x. It worked great for me, and my family on-site loved it.

Yes.  It is still the best option out there.  All depends on cellular coverage.

Is the site still legit? It has dates from last year and the "news" is from 2015. Can you recommend a website to order this?

I
n the top right hand corner there's a button that says "Buy or rent now" - that's where you order.

I see a number of events from April 2016 loaded...
They are most used for large 70.3 and 140.6 events in the U.S.  and that "season" doesn't really start until May. Usually if you check back the day or two before a big event, that's when they load up all of the athletes who will be wearing their product. You can even track random folks on their race day to see how it works.

I used a myathletelive tracker for IMAZ this past November, and it worked perfectly. There is a few seconds delay so let your family know to be ready even when you are a couple miles out. Once my husband realized this, they were able to see me every time!

Plus you can give anyone else the information and people can track you online - it's pretty darn cool!

I would definitely recommend it - OH, and it POURED/rained/hailed on us during the whole bike ride and it still worked great. It's just like a race belt that you put on when you get on your bike and you keep it on the rest of the race. I never noticed I was wearing it.

I have used it 3 times and it's always just been meh... It works in some spots and other times it drops out. With Ironman having so many timing mats now I think I will bypass this option in the future.

I used one for Tahoe 70.3 last year and my husband loved the fact that he could go do whatever while I would be away for a while and then come back and catch me along the course. It was nice to see him pop up where I wouldn't normally have seen him. I would use it again, but only for a 70.3 (or 140.6 if I ever decide to do one).

Well MyAthlete Live just announced they are closing shop next month.

From their Facebook page:
After 8 years we have decided to stop MyAthlete Live. While we still believe in the concept of live athlete tracking for spectators, simply put the amount of business required to make it a profitable business never materialized. We’d like to thank all of our loyal customers for allowing us to be a part of your journeys over the years. We appreciate the interactions with you all and the friendships that have been built. We will be processing races for those that rented through mid-June 2016. Any rentals after mid-June we will cancel the rentals and refund any funds collected. The MyAthlete Live Team

You do know you would be DQ'd in a IM race for this ?

And while I believe the rule does not make sense, it is a rule.

I used the RoadID app on my phone during training rides and during my last long-course race.  Yes, technically illegal in the race, and I had to start the app (I started it in T1).

I tried the RoadID and it killed my battery on a 5 hour ride.

Well, I went ahead and got it for IMCHOO and just received it in the mail today. I did a little digging and the device they sent is called a GL300W you can buy these from several different places. There are other companies that provide the device and then charge you a monthly fee for the service (not IM specific). If you race a lot, then it may be worth it.
