I'm looking for website, google searches, etc. that provide races/events in my local area (NYC/NJ and surrounding - preferably outside the city, surrounding area to the north).

I've tried Active.com but didn't have much luck, and a few other similar websites.

Not looking for just triathlons, but would love to find some organized rides - centuries, 50-60 milers, etc.

Thanks!

trifind.com is a great resource for triathlons. For running and cycling events, I have to scour local and regional groups' websites (run club, bike club, tri club) - I also join and follow their Facebook pages as that's where a lot of event announcements are made (new events, registration is open, close to being sold out, etc.). If there's a race/event or timing organization that does a lot of your local races, check out their web sites and social media pages.

Yeah, Active is so bogged down with ads and virtual races that it's tough to find anything there now.

I agree with Lisa regarding Trifind and looking at local sites.  Usually, once you start attending races you will receive emails and FB suggestions for similar races.

Despite the name:

http://www.runningintheusa.com/

is a great place also. It has alot of searchable fields, and highlighted map options like this:

http://www.runningintheusa.com/Race/MapShot.aspx?Rank=Upcoming&Spec...

For triathlons, 13.1's, duathlons, 5k, you name it.

That's a great feature, thanks!  I search, quite often, for races in other locales.

I "find" trifind.com to be really easy and convenient to search, I like it.

I check trifind, etc. but I also go straight to some organizers sites.  For example, Setup Events and FSSeries are big in my area so I check their event schedules directly.

bikereg.com has a decent amount of cycling events - you can search by location, too.

this is specific but since you are in NJ check out Delmo sports.  He puts on some good, albeit expensive, races.  Well attended and event like atmosphere.

I use trifind.com then google mine and neighboring towns with triathlon then join newsletters and social media. Xterra is pretty scarce but am aware.
Nice to test these other sites and wondering if some will be listed my previous method skips. I also use the race reviews on here before registering.

I started riding this spring with the Carnac shoes on Look pedals (with plenty of float). About five minutes into a ride I get sharp pain on the outer edge of my feet, just behind the pedal.
