Posted this on the Nevada forum, but no response......

Has anybody done Silverman or doing it this year? Sounds like a great race. I'd like to include it in my calendar next year.....Tough course, great scenery and Vegas baby! What more can you ask for? Plus, I'm sure it's not as crowded as the IM events.

Silverman will be my first 140.6. I'm pretty excited but of course, as usual, under trained. Hope that natural ability can take me to the finish

It's going to be exciting to watch too because of all the potential relay teams jocking for the $100k. So, if I don't make it, i'll have something to do.

I'm scared just writing about it. I heard it's the toughest long courses in North America. Not sure about that but just the fact that it's been brought up scares the crap out of me.

Wow!

I was just checking the course out on Google Earth. Awesome!  That is going on my "Must do" list.

For some reason, I thought you were racing this race this year.

Silverman is so totally on my to-do list but it'll be 2007. . Talked with one person who did it last year and she said tough but not so hard that mere mortals shouldn't even try. . Feedback from other people has been that support was over the top last year - Like a 4 to 1 ratio of volunteers to racers. Because of the buzz around the relay, I wouldn't be surprised if the field is a little bigger this year.

Do I understand you are going to do it this year? Good luck with your training!

I would love to participate in the Silverman...in a few years!  As it stands, I drive the course every single day of my life.  I  am with the construction company redoing the roads around Lake Mead.  There was a meeting today discussing the schedule for the roadway during the time of the race.  As it is, the road may be gravel only in some places, unless the city pays some serious coin to get us to close it up somehow.  The problem is, the temperature will not allow us to pave during that time of the year.  I started worrying about this about the time I got into Triathlon.  I will do my best to get the road in a good cycling condition.  Don't know why I am sharing all of this, just concerned for my fellow triathletes i guess.

Uggh! I can't imagine being an RD - and all the logistics!  I'd say a paved road is pretty crucial! Do what you can - we thank you! :-)

Based on the meeting today, it looks like even if it is opened up, they will compact a base course and put a seal coat over it, it may just be better than some of the non worked on road out there.  See you at Silverman!

Oh well, must have misread something in the ironman thread.

On a side note, that CA 1/2 is fun as hell. I did it this last March and I'm going to do it again next year for a reality check for IMAZ.

Man, you are going to love that race. Even as a BOPER coming in close to the cut off time, there were still great crowds to cheer me on. Great venue, weather, support.
