Subject: RIP Muhammad Ali

Thanks to my Grandpa and dad I grew up a huge boxing fan.  I have always been a fan of Ali......the greatest I ever saw.

I'm old enough to remember the vitriol that many people had for him  when he came back to boxing in 1970 against Jerry Quarry.  The Vietnam war was a constant discussion in my household at the time and Ali had stood strong against it......love him or hate him, he was true to himself and his beliefs.

Then the fight with Joe Frazier in 1971........still one of the best I've ever seen....truly a war of it's own.

Most of the world came to respect him........no small order for a man of his convictions (and race) in those days.

The world was a better place with him in it.  Now we are less.

"Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth." - Muhammad Ali

He was an amazing guy. If you've never seen the documentary "When We Were Kings" about the Rumble in the Jungle with Foreman, it's worth trying to find it.

He really was, "The Greatest."
(and yes, he would have easily beaten Iron Mike Tyson in his prime! )

Right now, I believe he's in a good place, just read your post, grinned, and said, "CD's right."

I went to the fight in New Orleans 1978 against Leon Spinks. It was a great fight, the man truly was the greatest.

Whenever things get tough in training or racing, I almost always start reciting this speech to myself, and it never ceases to get me all riled up:

Bad!
Been choppin' trees
I done something new for this fight...
I've wrassled with an alligator...that's right!
I done wrassled with an alligator
I done tussled with a whale
I done handcuffed lightnin', throwed thunder in jail!
That's bad...
Only last week I murdered a rock,
Injured a stone,
Hospitalized a brick.
I'm so mean I make medicine sick!

Bad!
Fast...Fast!
Last night I cut the light off in my bedroom, hit the switch, was in the bed before the room was dark!

Fast!

And you, George Foreman-
All of you chumps are gonna bow, when I whoop him.
All of ya!
I know you got him, I know you got him picked...But the man's in trouble.

I'mma show YOU how GREAT I AM!
