my plastic portable evap coolers are not cooperating with summer's boot up.   I don't want a roof top swamp cooler, and I don't want air con Electric bills.

So, I think we are going to go whole house fan.    It might near 100 F during the days, but most nights hit the low 60's here, so it sounds perfect.

anyone use one?

I just bought a home with one. Don't know much about them but everyone who has been to our house raves about the stupid thing. Our electrician today was talking it up like its the greatest thing since sliced bread

My parents house where we grew up had one mounted in the attic. I loved sleeping with it running during summer. It was hot to start with, but it was nice and cool in the morning. Leave the bedroom doors and windows open at night.

OMG.  It IS the greatest thing.  ever!

i come home from work, and my closed up house is sitting at a cool 69F (85F outside).    I run it at night only, and it uses 530 watts on hi. Once I am done experimenting, I will probably use a timer and use it epven less.      It was 58F this morning Inside.     I broke out the down comforter!

My house has one installed, I just never know when I should run it. Do you use it only at night when you can open windows?

.  Yes.  Turn it on when it is cooler outside than inside.

I have one and I also have a basement. If I leave the door from the house to the basement open (and the slider in the basement) it pulls all the cold air from down there through the house. Works awesome. Great for night and it's good just to move the air around sometimes after cooking a big meal in the kitchen or something.
