Hey all. Week ago in a local Crit, about 1 lap into the race the first legit attack started up and I was 3rd in line. Someone stacked up putting me 4th. We we're at about 29mph when a secondary attack came up on the left (ledby my brother going about 33, and that's roughly all I remember as a crash occured. I am told, mostly by my bodily injuries, that I hit very hard on my head, immediate KO and the shoulder hit as well and then the subsequent skin burning skid. I was also run over multiple times and my bike was totaled.

A year ago I was looking to get an aero road helmet for tri and my rides. I posted questions here etc etc and went with the Ballista which I enjoyed for it's comfort, definite aero difference from conventional road helmet and it looked great on me. It saved my life in this crash. I still have neck trauma I am dealing with and will for a while and a concussion not yet recovered from. The helmet as you can see didn't crack and didn't shift . It really did an excellent job. I spoke with Trek rep over the weekend. They're sending me a brand new one. The extended time in conversation and concern for the helmet's performance was very appreciated. Thought I'd post a kudos to them for all you guys every wondering out there.

Tim

Hey Tim, glad you're relatively okay. That helmet did what it's supposed to do, and you're here to tell the tale. Good on Trek for the design and follow-through. Heal up and get back on the (new) horse!

TriLover recently had the opportunity to interview Tim and Nicole. Read what the DeBooms had to say about triathlon, their support for each other and life.
