I thought the race was pretty well organized. What the heck happened on the Sprint? Looking at the results, it looks like the OA top 3 finished within 30 seconds of each other? That's pretty cool.

(I wouldn't know...I was wandering around on the long course run in the heat).

I finished 6th female overall in the sprint, the tops guys in the sprint were together about a half mile from the finish, looks like right after that they challenged each other to see who wanted it the most

Actually, we were split up.  I was in the first wave and crossed the finish line first with Kevin Wait under a minute behind me.  4 minutes and 31 seconds later the next guy crossed the line with the next guy 9 seconds behind him.  Kevin and I thought we were 1-2 because the waves were supposed to be 3 minutes apart.  However, they had to pull someone out of the water which delayed the wave behind us by 2 more minutes.  So I took 3rd by 29 seconds behind the 1st place finisher.  That is one drawback with staggered waves but there isn't much you can do about it.  Those guys were just faster on the run.  When I saw those guys still going out after I made the turnaround, I mistakenly thought I had enough of a lead.  Had we been in the same wave and come out of T2 closer together, who knows if I could have pushed it harder?

Thanks for telling the story. Always neat to hear about how it is at the very pointy end of the field

Wow. That is interesting. Great job. Yea, it stinks to think what you might have been able to do. Who knows. It sort of takes the "mano a mano" out of it a bit. The only solution that I can think of is to have an "elite" wave at the start, but I'm sure that presents other issues. I think Cedar Creek did that last year.

yeah that's a bummer. I don't much care for the time trial starts either. The corporate challenge tri had a time trial swim start but I had no idea where I was compared to guys in my age group. And the run was not an out & back either so there was no way to at least see if someone was close.

I like the mass swim starts because you know exactly where you stand for the entire race (not to mention the advantage over the weaker swimmers )

I stood behind the second place, long-course female as she found out that she lost 1st place by 34 tenths of a second. She had no idea because they started in separate waves. Unfortunately, that's kinda how it goes sometimes.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!
