Total Time = 1h 45m 16s
Overall Rank = 234/393
Age Group = M40-44
Age Group Rank = 34/40
Pre-race routine:

Woke up early and ate my normal breakfast. Didn't get a great night of sleep.
Event warmup:

Stretched in Transition and light jog outside of transition. Got into the water and swam for 5 minutes getting adjusted to the temperature of the water.
Swim
  • 12m 34s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 31s / 100 meters
Comments:

Really good open water swim for me. I've always had issues but today it went well. I was calm and had no problems. I'm excited to go again in my next race.
Transition 1
  • 02m 41s
Comments:

Transition was very slow.
What would you do differently?:

Not injure the bottom of my feet 4 days before the race. Walking barefoot is very painful let alone running on concrete.
Bike
  • 55m 25s
  • 16 miles
  • 17.32 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike leg was good. Need to work more on staying aero while on the trainer. Also need to work the abs to handle it. I might consider doing another fitting but will hold off. My comfort level on the bike always changes with my weight. Final climb was not expected.
What would you do differently?:

Need to get better at climbing
Transition 2
  • 01m 53s
Comments:

Transitions were slow. It's been so long since I did either. My feet being in rough shape didn't make this easier either.
What would you do differently?:

Don't hurt my feet 4 days before an event.
Run
  • 32m 46s
  • 5 kms
  • 06m 33s  min/km
Comments:

I completely was not expecting the hills and the heat. Kicked me in the butt.
What would you do differently?:

Need to do more brick workouts as well as hill workouts in my neighborhood
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around after the finish line trying to lower my core temperature. Heat was overwhelming. Drank plenty of water and then walked back to transition.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This was my first triathlon in 2 years. Transitions were slow. The lack of brick workouts and hill training was definitely a factor in my performance.

Event comments:

Very organized race. Course is well managed and everything was very good. I will definitely do this race again next year.

I have had chronic Achilles tendonitis problems for a good portion of my life. I am wondering if this can ever go away, or if there is a surgery that can be done?
