For the longer rides, it would be nice to have a small bag that you can put a jacket, and maybe a snack in. Paniers seem to be out of the question for a carbon bike and I am not too interested in a backpack.

So I am looking at a handlebar bag.

What does everyone use or do you just keep it a bare bones little tool saddle bag and maybe a bento box?

If I gotta haul that sail on my bike I'm filling it with beer.

Long rides are supported with two bottles on the frame and whatever I can fit in my jersey pockets. If I need more, I'll carry a debit card and stop.

^^^Yep

I do 100 miles rides with 2 bottles small under seat tool bag and some snacks in in my jersey pockets.

I have paniers for commuting to work so I can bring full change of cloths, towel, lunch,...

My paniers are over the rear tire, putting that much weight on your handlebars can make your bike unstable.

Yeh the bags in the photo are a bit too large unless they were lined with insulation for the beers.

Really, I just need something to put a jacket and gloves into while on the road bike. Not a huge issue for the next month or so but I am in Canada and do ride in the mountains in the morning so some layering is needed and a place to put it when it warms up. It was 8c / 46f this AM

A little fanny pack might do the trick. No weight on the shoulders.

For commutes, I have my trusty old hybrid with back panniers.

Are you wearing a regular cycling jersey? My experience has been that jersey pockets provide enough space for layer changes for 20 to 30 degrees F of temperature change when riding. My jacket has removable sleeves, so I can fit the torso portion in one pocket and the sleeves in another. That still leaves me with a third pocket for misc stuff like gloves, cell phone, head band, snacks. If push comes to shove, I can also stuff odds and ends into my bibs.

A bike is NOT a piece of metal with a couple of wheels at either end and a steering thing to stop you running over old ladies. No! ... a bike is a space-age “weapon of mass confusion.”
