Subject: 8.22.16 Hey BT! I'm alive!

Good morning, almost afternoon BT!  My last free day before heading to teacher meetings tomorrow.  Got the summer bleached hair cut and colored--time for sensible hair once again! Lol!

So...the XTERRA.  Wow.  My hat is off to those who actually race race these things!  I will say I was not DFL...I actually beat a handful of people.  It was my slowest Oly tri ever--5:49!  The mountain bike climb was AHHHH-MAZING!  It was so hard though!  The climbing was all through sand--not deep, deep...but still SAND! The Flume Trail was spectacular--the flattest part of the ride.  One side up against the mountain, the other side a drop off cliffs.  Out in front, gorgeous views of Lake Tahoe--but it was too scary to look for very long!  The run was described as relatively flat--I say they should have written 'relatively' becuase it sure felt hilly to me!  It was a bit of a run/walk fest--but I did it!  I will post a full race report later!  What an experience!

Karen, so excited for you for World's!

Have a great day all!

Congrats on your race! Yes, Xterras are tough, especially if you don't train the terrain. The bike can be especially tough, since it's a different kind of bike racing. Lots of power surges, technical handling is important, and obstacles can be right in your way! I've only raced one, but it was a blast!

As I entered the transition area, I got body marked. It was, for me, pretty intense. It made it so real...I was doing this! A triathlon!

My thanks to the triathlete community for being there when I need you. That’s the beautiful thing about triathletes. None of us are all right, and no one expects anyone else to be.
